The Gipsy Princess 1961
1961 saw Ennis Franciscan MS take to the stage with operatta 'The Gipsy Princess'. We performed for eight shows, February 19th to 26th in the New Hall Ennis. We also took this production to the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, where several of our team were highly commended and shortlisted for awards.
The Gypsy Princess is a 1915 operetta about the love between cabaret star Sylva Varescus and Prince Edwin, whose different social classes create a major obstacle. The story follows their attempts to be together, which involves mistaken identities, a planned marriage for Edwin to his cousin Stasi, and a final, ironic revelation that Edwin's own mother was a cabaret performer, clearing the path for the couple.
