1977- Die Fledermaus
Die Fledermaus was our 19th production. This Johann Straus operetta is widely regarded the greatest ever written was first produced in 1878 in Vienna.
Fr Kieran O'Gorman took charge of the biggest orchestra we had ever had perform. With a cast of close to 50, many popular Ennis Franciscan MS regulars made an appearance in leading roles.
Maretta O'Hehir took on the challenging part of Rosalinda, which was no challenge at all to her as she had played the part in many societies already. In fact many felt that she embodied the part so much it seemed as if it had been written for her! There was a strong line up of men in our leading roles, with Gus Barrett again taking the main role.
We were delighted to take the show to the Waterford Light Opera Festival where we were successful in two categories.
Best Sets-John Duggan
Best leading man runner up- Gus Barrett
