The Student Prince 1966
1966 saw Ennis Franciscan Musical Society take on 'The Student Prince'. our performance venue changed this year to the Vocation School Auditorium (now Ennis Community College). We performed five shows in June of that year.
As mentioned in the article above from they encountered several significant problems in the preparation for this show. A few weeks before they went on stage, all the scenery was destroyed in a fire. Thankfully they were able to rebuild the sets/scenery in time for staging the show.
The orchesteral score was due to arrive the week before they went on stage but due to a shipping strike this was not going to happen. Aer Lingus thankfully came to the rescue to deliver the scores in time to ensure the performance went on.
This show was Cecil McDonagh's first leading role in our society, he would go on to take to the stage many more times with us. Maretta O 'Hehir once again played one of the leading ladies to great affect. This show was Jack Wall's first leading performance with the group also and he was highly commended for his baritone voice.
