1973 Oklahoma
1973 saw Ennis Franciscan Musical Society take on the classic musical 'Oklahoma'. With its sweeping music and romantic plot, it swept the Ennis audiences all the way to the USA with amazing performances nightly in April-May 1973.
Jack Wall returned as dashing leading man Curly to Maura McMahon's Laurey. Ann Monahan took on the role of Aunt Eller despite being quite a bit younger than the character. In a smaller role we see Gus Barrett as Ike Skidmore. Gus will go on to be a returning member for many years with our society and indeed go on to form Shannon Musical Society a few years later.
The story of Oklahoma is familar to many and is a true classic standard of American musical history. It is such a wonderful show that EMS have gone on to perform it three times in its history. Truly a testament to how timeless it is.
