Ennis Franciscan MS performed 'The Count of Luxembourg' operetta by Franz Lehar for eight performances Sunday 12th-19th of March 1978. By all accounts from the local press, the show was a great triumph and audiences flocked to see it each night. Admission was £1.
This year saw a change in producer to Dorothy Clark from Headfordshire. She well known for producing shows in London and throughout England.
Another new face this year was our musical director Clem Garvey. He was however well known to the society as violinist but this was to be his first foray into being a musical director.
We again saw a strong lead cast of familiar EFMS members such as Anna Monahan, Gus Barrett, Maretta O'Hehir, Cecil McDonagh, Jack Wall, Maura McMahon, Paddy Browne among many many others.
A special mention came in the media for the appearence of Gus Barrett's son Derek for his first role on stage with us as Jo-Jo the page boy. The audience loved the little boy and burst into applause for his brief appearances.
The dancing also won high praise from the audiences which must have been delightful for the new producer/choreographer Dorothy.
We once again took part in the Waterford Light Opera Festival in its 20th year. According to the adjudicator, it was deemed a triumph in stage management, production and musical director.
We were delighted to win the following awards-
Best Sets- John Duggan
Certificate of Merit- Clem Garvey
