History of the Society
The Ennis Musical Society celebrated it's diamond (60th) show anniversary this year. Indeed it is extremely difficult to gauge the contribution the society has made in Ennis during it's 60 year history. The society's annual productions have provided an important social and artistic dimension to county. Months of practise and rehearsal culminate in one glorious weeks of public performance where the community are given the opportunity to savour a show of song, dance and entertainment.
The diligence of members plus the friendships which have grown down through the years have helped the society to remain vibrant. Stories of costume malfunctions, mishaps on stage, disappointment, elation and the blossoming of local talent have been sandwiched in between rehearsals and the eagerly awaited annual productions.
History
It was in 1953 that the Society, then known as the 'Friary Choral', under the dedicated direction of its founder the late Fr. Eunan OFM, embarked on its debut performace, "The County Girl" at the New Hall (known to some as Paddy Cons, The Jet Club and now home to Maddens Furniture). It drew it's cast from Friary choir and was led by chorus mistress Kitty Ryan

Six years were to elapse before its next production "Wild Violets" in May 1959 by the revived Society, then known as the Franciscan Musical Society. Following 1959 the society has taken to the stage every year with a talented and entertaining show.
In 1978 the society became the Ennis Musical Society but the link with the Francisans remained as strong as ever.
The society has performed operattas, concerts but primarily focuses on a musical performance each year.
